Our goal is simple: every JoinHikes guide should help you plan a better trip, and you should be able to trust what it says. This page explains how we research, write and update our content.
How we research
Before a guide is published, we check the practical details that can make or break a trip: opening hours, entry fees, permits, shuttle schedules, trail distances, parking and seasonal closures. Wherever possible, we confirm these with official park, city and venue information rather than relying on older articles.
How we write
- Practical first. We focus on what you need to know to make decisions: how long to spend, when to go, what it costs and what to skip.
- Plans, not just lists. Where it helps, we give you a day-by-day plan, a route or a clear recommendation instead of a long list of options.
- Honest about downsides. If a trail is crowded, a viewpoint is overrated or a hotel area is inconvenient, we say so.
- Safety matters. For hikes and outdoor trips, we include heat, weather, water and permit advice, and we point out when conditions can turn dangerous.
How we keep guides up to date
Each guide shows the year it applies to and the date it was last updated. We review our most-read guides regularly and update them when prices, rules, closures or schedules change. If a place closes, we mark it clearly or remove it.
Independence and affiliate links
Our recommendations are our own. Some pages may contain affiliate links, but no company can pay to be featured or to change what we write. Read our Affiliate Disclosure for full details.
